Irs Tax Refunds_how long
Q.I mailed both my federal and state tax returns on April 15th. I received my federal refund at least 5 weeks ago but still no sign of my Mass refund. How long has the turn around time been for people receiving their IRS state tax refunds?... especially the last minute filers like myself.
A.See https://wf.dor.state.ma.us/mrs/Welcome.asp but it doesn't seem to be working right now. I filed my Massachusetts forms by mail around April 12, and I haven't seen my refund yet. Last time I checked they were saying the turnaround for paper forms was like 13 weeks, but 3 days for electronic or telephone filers. I guess they really want us to go electronic. There is some interest that kicks in, I think after 16 weeks. Right around tax time, I recall a special report on one of the local news casts, talking about how the state is understaffed in the revenue department, and showed a HUGE room at the Southie Postal Annex FULL to the rafters, of bins of tax returns waiting to be sorted. The tax official in the report seriously suggested that some people may have to wait until early fall for their refund check.
