Can I find out the Irs tax refund status on Internet or is there a phone I can call?

Q.It's been 4 weeks since I sent in my 1040. Can I find out the Irs tax refund status on Internet or is there a phone I can call?

A.Try 1-800-829-4477. I just called it and the refund part of the system is down, but try again later. 1-800-829-4477 and follow the prompts. Also see page 34 of the 1040 instruction booklet for some local telephone telephone numbers for some cities. Call 1-800-829-4477. Information you'll be asked to punch in to your touch tone telephone is SSN, filing status, and amount of refund. You cannot check it on the internet, but you can check by calling 1-800-829-4477. You need your SSN, filing status, and the amount of the refund. The information is updated each weekend, so don't bother checking more than once a week. This time of year, 4 weeks is probably too soon; 6-8 is more likely.
