Who has access to your tax information besides the IRS. Can anyone else see your taxes without our permission?

Q.Who has access to your tax information besides the IRS. Can anyone else see your taxes without our permission?

A.Even within the IRS only certain people are supposed to be able to see your tax records without your permission. All information is protected from disclosure unless there's an exception in IRC 6103. There are lots of them. The most common are exchanges of information with the states and with other Federal agencies (e.g. SSA, FMS) for tax administration. My tax return? No. Near the back of your tax booklet is a privacy statement. Read it and see who the IRS can give your information to and when. Other than that, no one can get your information from them without your permission. Look at IRC section 6103 for the list.
