IRS Help : old tax returns

Q.I recently filed an I-130 petition for my wife and although it has not yet been approved, I am trying to get a head start on the AOS and I-864 by collecting all the required stuff well in advance. One of the posters (sorry, I forgot the name) mentioned that he/she had asked for the IRS to mail him/her some sort of summary of his/her past tax returns. To the best of my knowledge, the I 864 documentation does not ask for any statement from the IRS itself, but just notarized "copies" of federal tax returns. Anyway, to be on the safer side, it is definitely worthwhile to get some official material from the IRS. After all this rambling, my question to readers is the following : Where could I get these statements from the IRS if I need them?? I tried looking at the I-130 help page and also the IRS WWW site but could not find any relevant pointers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A.You need to go back and read the I-864 again. It does *not* ask for "notarized copies" (and thanks for giving me a heart attack by the way...lol). It simply says "your individual tax returns for the most recent 3 tax years"...and the Form ER-750 says that simple photocopies of accompanying documents is fine, but to have the originals available for review at a later date, if requested. I also know that in the past, people have simply provided copies of the personal copies that they keep when they file their tax returns, and those have been accepted with no problem. But, if you really want them, you can phone 1-800-829-1040 and ask how to get copies of your return. There are other posts from the past two days as well that deal with your question.
